Good bye old friend

I get oddly sentimental about the strangest things. I tie in a feeling or memory with some odd ball object then get attached to it. Today I am giving a Viking send off to my electric kettle. I drink a lot of tea, and boil water daily for other things too like cleaning nasty things stuck to plates, etc. In China, in our hotel room, they provided electric kettles and that's where I really started liking them. They boil faster, and use less energy, and don't heat up the whole kitchen. I bought this one right after I came home with Q.

I used it to make countless batches of oatmeal, millions of cups of tea, sterilized baby bottles, and nasty kitchen sponges. But after 6 years (believe it or not, it's been 6 years this month), my faithful companion has passed. She just wouldn't heat up anymore. Good ol' Toastmaster has been replaced by Krups.

I'm sure Krups will be just as loyal and reliable as Toasty, but he has got to prove himself. He(she?) doesn't have as big a capacity, but seems to boil faster. He has a screw off lid, where as Toasty has a flip top, eliminating that annoying thing of "where the F did I just put that lid, I just took it off a second ago!"
So now I'm off to build a Viking boat, put Toasty on it and light it a blaze to honor my faithful companion. So long.

I LOVE my tea kettle for all the same reasons as you. I think I would mourn the passing as well....but quickly buy a brand new shiny one because I don't know what I'd do without one.
