Well, imagin my surprise ...

When the assistant principal called me at work to tell me Q was in his office because she punched out a boy on the bus! Now before you jump to conclusions, just read what happened. When the principal said this I told him that Q would get grounded until she is a grey haired old lady. He said that before I do this, try to get the story out of her. When she was sent there he asked her what happened and why she hit the boy, she was very shy and wouldn't say why (Q later told me she was crying and wouldn't say why). Now you must understand that Q never has been a discipline problem. The most trouble she has ever been in was for talking in class and she had to write her name on the board. So even the assistant principal was at a loss. He requested that when I got the story to e-mail it to him so he knows what is going on. When I e-mailed him, all I could tell him is that the boy said something mean to her over and over. So lets look at this from another angle. Q had a problem last Spring getting bullied by a boy at day care for being Chinese, then during the summer she was getting bullied by a girl for being popular. I don't think the day care handled it well. So when this boy picked on her, she snapped and hit him. But she is the one who got caught. So because she defended herself, she got sent to the office, got a recess detention, and had to explain this to her mom. I'm going into school today to help with the Halloween party at her school, and I am going to ask to see the assistant principal, who I think was very understanding about this whole situation. I will keep you posted.

It is sad when that happens. You don't want to teach your child to be a victim, but if you teach them to fight back, they are the ones that end up in trouble.

I'm glad to see that she is strong enough to stand up for herself and not take any crap from anyone. That's YOUR doing ya know. It sucks though that SHE is the one who got in trouble. It's nice to see that the asst principal is so understanding about the whole situation. Unfortunately that is so rare these days.
