First day of First Grade.
So I asked Q what happened her first day of school. She replied "We lined up to go to the bathroom, and went in 3 at a time!" That seemed to make a huge impression on her. And she was so excited about it too. Now I do have another challenge as a parent- school lunches. I bought jelly for sandwiches (Q doesn't really eat meat, and the school is peanut/tree nut free)and apples and chips and rice crispy treats for dessert. She came home today with a notice that they can't bring sweets or chips for lunch because it's not healthy. Does anyone else have this rule at their school? So what the heck am I supposed to make for her. Maybe I can get her to eat carrot sticks and ranch dressing(she has an on again off again like for carrots). I guess I can pack spaghetti o's ( my Mom is freaking out at her eating them cold, like Q cares if it's hot), and slices of cheese. But being a school lunch neophyte, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Okay, first, WTF is a neophyte? I'm going to have to google that one.
Yes, my kids' school also has that asinine rule, but I just send whatever I want to send. Today Huck took a Little Debbie Swiss Roll for snack and nobody said a word. Friday? Both kids took peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.
As for school lunches (and yes, I already googled "neophyte"-good one) if you can get a menu, then maybe she can pick which days she wants to bring her lunch, and which days she wants to ear the food from Lunch Lady Land.
Naturally I meant "eat" the food.
That "nut free" rule is really a pain in the ass. I know schools have a "nut free table", and those allergies are life-threatening, but to dictate what other foods go into a lunch? That's bullshit. What about the kids who refuse to eat that stuff? Do not dictate to me what I put in my kids lunch. If my kid eats snacky stuff, it is my choice not the schools.
AZ, good idea, I wonder if we can buy on a day to day basis. I know that you have tos end in money for the month for lunches. And you are right, probably no one will notice what I put in her lunch. Even if they do, what are they going to do about it? Expell her?
Manic- and you know me, I make her eat healthy, eat veggies and what not. But I think it's ok for her to have chips or a snack once a day or so, just not to many. So now she just eats her chips at home.
OMG, that is rediculas. I understand having to impose rules as to what the school served, Okie schools considered ketchup a vegie, but to regulate what you send with your kids. I have one kid who will not eat jellie on his PB&J. Since I have to be so careful with Goob's and my diets, we only have sugar free jello, pudding, and so on. Then I usually keep organic chips and veggie chips in th house. Would those be banned too since there is nothing bad in them, but they taste sweet and naughty?
Jenger I would imagin if you have special diatary needs you can bring what you need. I just got a letter in her book bag today reminding me that there are no nuts allowed. Some children react by even smelling peanut butter.
But what is lunch without Fritos? Or twinkies? They are trying to do away with an American institution.
I didn't realize peanut allergies were THAT severe. I know eating them-even one lick-can be deadly to the worst cases, but smelling it? Wow!
I know Q loves fruit-nearly everytime I see her, she is chowing down on strawberries. But I didn't know about carrots, specially knowing your aversion to them. Of course that is how it works-I H.A.T.E. fish and the girls LOVE it. Hubs makes salmon for them once in a while and the smell makes me sick.
